Accounts of an Adolescent |

Hi everyone.
I'm not sure who else reads this blog anymore, but yeah, I'm not dead yet.
I probably can't say the same about this blog :P
I'd love to continue where I left off, but I was thinking it's about time for a rebirth.
So here is my new blog: Dreams Can Come True.
I still write regularly for ECS's student blogs but I felt like I needed some place for my private thoughts.
It's been quite a journey. Accounts of an Adolescent will always hold a special place in my heart. Who knows? It might just experience a resurrection sometime in the future ;)

I'm currently tutoring maths for two Muslim siblings; one's a 15-year-old doing his GCSE this year and the other's a 9-year-old girl doing her Key Stage 2.. The moment I stepped into their house, I was in shock.. They live in this mansion which is just 15 minutes away from my place..
I know I've had a lot of experience tutoring in Malaysia, but this new job really made me apprehensive, considering I don't have a single clue as to what the UK syllabus is about and what's expected from me.. However, today was our 2nd session and I'm starting to get the hang of this tutoring thing.. I'm getting along great with the girl and we're making good progress.. The brother? He's soooo handsome.. Sigh.. If only he was a bit older.. That being said, he looks a lot more mature for his age and being the genius that he is, he keeps scoring As for his exams.. When I ask if he's having any problems with his work, he always says no so I'm left feeling that I don't really need to be there :P
Their mom is a real angel.. She gave me a delicious kebab meal while the kids were doing their work and I've been invited to come over to visit her anytime of the day just to keep each other company :)
They are such amazing people and thank God for giving me this opportunity to meet them :)

When I applied for my accommodation last year, I had put down in my form that I was a vegetarian.. The logic behind this was that whenever I joined any functions that required me to list down my dietary requirements, I would always say I'm vegetarian simply because they don't provide halal food.. So I did the same with my halls application.. Little did I know that I was being allocated to a vegetarian-only flat!
In the beginning, I was totally apprehensive about it.. They were all mean, lean, green-eating machines and I couldn't bear the thought of having them stare disapprovingly as I went about cooking raw meat in the kitchen.. So I basically avoided the kitchen for as long as I could.. I must've visited the kitchen only 4-5 times a week and most of the time, I would just eat out.. As a result, I was effectively the odd one out in the flat..
Nowadays, I've started to gain the "courage" to cook normally in the kitchen.. I try my best to use it when it's less busy, but somehow they always hover in whenever I'm around.. Particularly, there's this one flatmate of mine, R, who's constantly getting on my nerves about what I eat.. When she first told me that she was a vegetarian, she said, "I don't believe that animals should die to feed me," and since then, I knew that I was in for a torrid year ahead :S
Over time, her comments didn't let up.. I cooked a chicken dish once and she retorted, "Ooh, dead birds?" and the other day I was cooking prawns, she just belched, "Disgusting!".. But then, she started to comment that my chocolate milk looked like "diarrhea juice" and I knew this wasn't coming from her vegetarian side..
One day, I decided to be civil and had my dinner in the kitchen with another flatmate.. As it turned out, I was told that everybody else was having problems with R as well.. She's been a tad demanding over the others and she has a penchant for nicking other people's food, to which I just winced in despair because I had just offered her to take some of my multipack cheese and onion rolls in the fridge anytime she wished :P
But come to think of it, maybe all those horrible comments she gave me were blessings in disguise.. Of all the food I've got, she's only going to nick my rolls, so I'm practically saved :D
Of course, I'd have to have really thick ears just to contend with her in the kitchen.. But it's a price I'm willing to pay.. LOL :P

I'm featured on ECS's main page! Wheeee :D
One of the bus drivers, Terry, commented that I lead a sad love life.. He says I'm smart and good-looking, but he can't understand why I still choose to go after bus drivers.. I said I don't know.. Then he asked whether I'd be watching the fireworks display that Friday night and I said no because I'd be doing very boring stuff, to which he replied:
"That's probably why."
:|
So there I was, wallowing in my self-induced depression.. Then when I got to my room and fired up my MSN, guess what? My classmate asked me out! Apparently even he couldn't believe that I was going to stay in on a Friday night so he asked if I'd go out with him.
And I said yes ;)
So we went to see the fireworks display and went to Portswood where we waited TWO LONG HOURS just to be served dinner :S
It wasn't exactly a date.. I'm pretty sure he asked me out just as a friendly gesture.. But he was such a gentleman.. He lived in St. Denys which is close to Portswood but he walked with me all the way back to South Hill which is 20 minutes in the opposite direction!
And yes, I walked! It had the most number of hills I've traversed in a single walk. Ever.
Overall, it was a great evening for me.. But to be honest, if it wasn't for Terry's remark, I probably wouldn't have gone out that night.. I'm perfectly fine with the idea of staying in every night but now I appreciate the fact that sometimes you just need to let loose a bit ;)
