It's funny how I get irritated over the college blog's tagboard..
To those who've lost touch with the college, apparently they've just elected a new Student Council and a new controversy has brewed.. The reason for the uproar? It's MUSCOM vs. the world - again.. The new SC consists of MUSCOM candidates and now the liberals are crying foul that the results were due to "manipulated democracy (sic) and conspiracy."
Which part of democracy don't you understand?
Is it the fact that you're all given a choice and you're free to exercise that right?
Is it the fact that people can choose not to go to manifesto nights and vote according to their own will?
Or is it the fact that the people whom you didn't want to win just did?
Can anyone think of US and Hamas now? The Palestinian people resoundingly chose Hamas because they were sick and tired of Fatah's corruption and the US's consistent lies.. But now that Hamas has won - all due to the US's insistence in democracy, no less - the US is now churning their propaganda machine and threatening to cut all Palestinian aid just because Hamas wants to avenge the deaths of their own countrymen by the hands of Israelis..
Comparing Palestine to college is waaayyy extreme, I know, but the act of denouncing democracy is laughable.. Can you not respect the fact that a popular consensus has been reached? It might not be what you wanted, but tough luck, you should've campaigned a lot more.. If people don't turn up for manifesto nights, then go knock chalet doors just like our MPs do during parliamentary elections.. For me, what saddens me the most is the outward disapproval of having any ties with MUSCOM..
I used to do that when I was in college.
And now, I'm regretting every second of it.. Because once you're in the UK, the only thing that separates you from the Western people is Islam, and if you don't support your own brothers and sisters, it's as if you're betraying your own family.. But of course, supporting mass murders of innocent people is stupid, so tread with caution :P
I keep telling to myself that no matter how hard it gets, I will not blame my faith when people dismiss my thoughts.. I will not blame my head scarf when people cannot 'see' me.. I will not blame my religion when people won't acknowledge me.. I will not forsake my principles when people call me outdated and conservative..
If I could turn back time, I would've said nicer things about MUSCOM.. Because if you want to know how it feels like being a Muslim in a UK country, try being a MUSCOM in college.
