Things I've Learned About Living in Southampton

1. How many cities actually have two different dedicated bus services serving two different universities, spanning across the whole area? This city's a (stingy) student's paradise, I tell you!

2. It's impossible to do my laundry on a 'busy' Sunday. On Saturday nights, however, I can pick and choose which machine I want to use.

3. If I have a class at 9am, I must walk out of my room and go straight to the nearest bus stop by 8am. Not a minute later. Because if I do, the bus would arrive at the bus stop approximately 60 seconds before I do. And when I do get there, the bus would be gone by then. And when that happens, I'll be cursing myself throughout the next 20-minute walk to campus.

4. If a bus is full, no matter how long or how frantically you flag it down, it will never stop for you. As the bus moves full speed ahead, if you're lucky, the driver will actually acknowledge you by shrugging his shoulders or raising his hand to signal "There's nothing I can do."

5. For a football club that's been relegated from the English Premier League, the Saints surely command a huge following among Southampton locals. How else could you explain 3 full buses - with all the passengers wearing red and white stripes - leaving my friends and I stranded on a Saturday evening, right before iftar?

6. UK people have a way with mispronouncing names of places. Quay is not "ku-ay" but "key". Portsmouth is not "portsma-u-th" but "portsmeth". Don't get me started on Leicester and Gloucester.
