Accounts of an Adolescent

Ladies and gentlemen.. Drumroll please..

A-LEVELS ARE OVER!

OMG, you have no idea how relieved I am.. For those of you who are still battling with exams, my prayers are with you.. Good luck! :)

Sigh.. I'm feeling a sense of resignation somewhat.. Que sera, sera.. Whatever will be will be.. I've done the best that I can and now all I have left to do is tawakal..

There's this new, huge storm brewing amongst the college community.. An article written by 'Pointblank' condemned the way certain students were parading their bodies by wearing XXX clothes.. The writer even thanked them for the 'soft porn'.. If you want to read the full article, well.. Be a KYUEM student.. LOL.. Coz I don't think I should aggravate the situation more than it already has been..

The thing is, people are taking the claim of anonymity far too much for granted.. And this even dates back to the Veritas controversy.. Just because people won't know who you are doesn't give you the right to disregard other people's feelings.. After reading all these flamatory pieces, you know what I think? I think all these people who are clearly opinionated - and have the skills to show how they feel - should come forward and address the public personally.. Let them know who you really are, instead of hiding behind a cowardly facade..

If someone were to say, "Hey, I think you shouldn't wear that because your boobs are about to fall out," I think people in this college are reasonable enough to listen.. Because :
1) It's personal
2) That someone had the courtesy to tell you to your face, instead of flaming the notice boards :P

I don't really see the logic behind these anonymous postings anymore.. Maybe I used to, back when I was in charge of Veritas, but now I don't think so.. When you bring up an issue, people are most likely to fight back, and at times like these, a healthy debate is more constructive than simply posting pages after pages of handwritten rebuttals on college walls..

And that's what I'm proposing to whoever that wrote - or is thinking of writing - behind pseudonyms.. OWN UP.. Once you take responsibility, only then will you start caring about what other people think..

I'm not here to diss the writer or the article (although that may have been the sentiment throughout this post :P).. I agree wholeheartedly with Pointblank's article.. But the style of writing makes it look like another radical movement by the so-called 'conservatives'..

If we got offended by the offending Veritas article, then Pointblank's article is repeating the same crime.. The people behind them might be different, but the hurt inflicted is similar.. People have a reason behind doing what they do, and if we don't like it, both parties must understand why.. I don't like people showing off their bods as well, but if you've told them about it and they're still doing it, what else can you do? Arguing what is 'moderate' and what is 'liberal' is pointless.. As long as people don't respect each other's feelings and thoughts, no amount of moderation or liberty is gonna be enough..

On that note, it's kind of funny seeing the scribble 'Define moderate!' on the notice boards.. It reminds me of a Malaysian artiste who got caught during the Zouk raid by Jawi.. She's a Muslim who should know what her limits are, and yet she had the gall to go on national TV demanding her rights to know what the 'proper' dress code is.. I hope the student who did the scribble isn't a Muslim :P

Yup! I definitely agree with this post.

If we want to flame anybody, stand up and do it properly & kindly.

If the "flamers" themselves are afraid of any retribution they will face by voicing their opinion, maybe they should reconsider whether the flaming is necessary at all.. :)

btw, I hate being scolded, or even advised. But, I will always listen to tips.

The keyword here is, "hikmah"

Well said, Sabri :)
