Today in history.. the LONGEST assembly ever experienced by a KYUEM student :P
Our assembly ran for a full 2 hours.. Sheesh.. The last time I had to endure long and painful assemblies were in my secondary school.. But back then, long assemblies happened every week, so I guess what happened today wasn't so bad after all.. First, we started off with a Mr. R lookalike who happened to be a conservation activist.. He talked about the chaos theory and how we should conserve the lions, cheetahs, etc. because if we don't, we'll die.. Or something to that extent.. heh :P
Then Dr. I made his maiden speech by addressing our current issues regarding 'free speech', particularly Veritas.. He complimented our students' knack for writing with 'honesty and wit'.. He stressed further that it was the college's policy to allow students to mix freely irregardless or race, religion or gender.. However, the article in question was found to be very insulting and insensitive to certain parties, thus a formal apology is in order.. Woohhooo! I wanted to jump up and down with joy when I heard that.. Muahahaha.. Sorry Veritas.. It's not that I'm turning my back on you.. But I think it's the right thing to do, and if you don't agree with that, well TOO BAD! Muahahaha..
Sorry for being malicious, but certain people in Veritas defend the article as if there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.. It's as if anybody who's against the article is deemed 'narrow-minded' and like I've said time and time again, it makes me sick.. Although I can understand why they keep up with their defence mechanism, I think there has to be a compromise.. With the college policies clearly explained to all students, the so-called 'conservatives' in essence are no longer able to force their ideals on other people, so shouldn't the so-called 'liberals' step up to the plate and accept the fact that they should apologize for offending the majority of the public? This whole mentality of I'm-right-and-everything-you-say-is-wrong simply has to go.. You've got to accept the fact that what other people say may be right, but ultimately it's your choice whether to agree with it or not.. Forcing other people to think the same way as you do sounds like a micro-communism to me :P
Well, I personally think Dr. I's speech fairly addressed the issue and I thank him for that.. Can't wait for the formal apology, hehe :P
