Watching all the bashing in Veritas's online blog makes me sick.

Here's an excerpt of their tag-board.. Um, read it from the bottom upwards :P

Justified. : And besides, if the UK is in however no way as they claim it, then really, I think you're suggesting places saturated with cliques formed perhaps?where the malaysians stick to only themselves?
Justified. : i'd like to emphasise that this includes ALSO religious tolerance.I suggest you refer to Pn Rog for further clarification.Heh..talkabout being open towards a multireligious community.Rubbish!
Justified. : So are we really turning to the middle east? or towards a more democratic nation?
Justified. : Sorry to point out, but racial tolerance is one of the values devoid in KYUEM, despite the government being an advocate of it.
Neutral: UK is not at all the way they defined it anyway. The justification of veritas actions based on going to UK is just preposterous! Writer has no clue bout UK, just trying to be a prissy smart-1*beep*2
Neutral: i did agree on some of the points, but it was just wrong to go PUBLISH it w/o weighing the consequences. Plus the comparisons between KYUEM and Saudi and stuff, that was absolute CRAP!
Neutral: of course it's not wrong to put the facts up. But the fact is that it DID offend a LOT of people. How are you going to explain the uproar in the staffroom? How about the Spongebob article?
TRUTH: Truth-isn't that what veritas means..isn't it it's job to present things as it is.no sugar coating.no beating round the bush.but straight foward.hitting the issue in the eye..
TRUTH: what's all this row about "ready for UK"..(btw..why is the person who first brought it up on the tag board named everyone?
TRUTH: not EVERYONE thinks veritas needs to apologize formally..in fact some ppl think it's great that veritas published it!)...
TRUTH: face the facts..there's something not right going on in the college..do we want to sweep it under the carpet and then get a super duper wooper culture shock in UK?
TRUTH: ..why can't ppl be more open minded and rational..what right have some ppl to judge others?why this self righteousness?..
TRUTH: try not to see this issue as a divider..or as a wrong done by veritas..realize that there's some truth in what the article claims..
TRUTH: and make an effort to change..we need it..being liberal doesn't mean abandonning one's faith..
TRUTH: Kudos to the writer for bringing the issue up..we need ppl like you..not to cause divide..but to make ppl aware..and only then can there be change for the better.=)..
TRUTH: oh..one other thing.. i think malaysians are soooooo afraid of sensitive issues now that we don't dare to ask questions bout other ppl's culture and religion...
TRUTH: this "sensitive issue" mindset has caused further divided and more misunderstanding in my opinion..sensitive issues can be brought up with the intention of benefitting the society

Dear Utterly Fed Up (UFU), TRUTH, Neutral, Justified. and everybody else who thinks highly of the article,

UFU, you're right.. In the UK, you won't find gender segregation.. Girls and boys lives in the same building, queue up in the same line, shop in the same mall, sit together in the same hall, etc.. In that sense, I fully agree with you..

But do I agree with everything else that you've said? NO.

Look, I'm not exactly the most devout Muslim in KYUEM.. I've skipped more usrah meetings than I can remember.. But reading your article made me wonder does your insensitivity know no bounds..

In Islam, it's written in the Holy Quran that men and women who are not related should not mingle freely together. In mass gatherings such as prayers and even wedding receptions, men and women must convene in separate places. It doesn't mean that whenever boys and girls sit together, there'll automatically be a huge mosh pit. Muslim women are also told to keep the sanctity of their accessories i.e. bodies by covering it. All actions that might instigate lust in men, i.e. suggestive dancing, are prohibited. Again, I'm not saying that one sway of the hips is going to send men on a raping spree. Have you ever heard of 'prevention is better than cure'? If you believe in this when it comes to drugs, what's wrong in applying it to sexual crimes? These rules are written in Islam, and as Muslims we should abide by it. And I emphasize on should, because I know a lot of people, including me, don't really do that and it's wrong.

But just think.. Most Hindus are vegetarians or don't eat beef even though it's (sometimes) delicious and served every week in the Dining Hall.. Do you see anybody smirking at Hindus for that? The Chinese burn paper money and offer food to respect the dead, even though people in Somalia are dying of hunger.. Do you see anybody mocking the Chinese for that?

NO. This is what we call racial tolerance.. We never question what you do with your religion so why must you question ours?

And if you must be utterly reminded, no girl has ever been reprimanded for lining up with the boys in the Dining Hall, vice versa with the boys.. I've always done that and I usually end up getting my food earlier than the rest.. No girl has ever been scolded for sitting at the boys side during Battle of the Bands.. I remember hoisting a huge banner with the rest of my hippie girl friends at the boys side..

The question is, what's the big fuss all about? If jumping into the boys' line, sitting at the boys' side and dancing in public is what you consider as liberal, then a lot of people in college are already doing that.. So what's the big deal here? Why must you shout out in public through Veritas? Since you've stepped into this college, you've been given a choice whether you want to conform to these unspoken rules or not.. So what's your f***ing problem?? What do you plan to achieve by publishing that article? Make the boys sit at the right side of the DH??

If you want to prove that the UK has no gender segregation, then fine, you've proven your point.. I hope that ruffling the feathers of our college's Muslim community and bringing shame to Veritas is all a worthy price to pay.

I know this is giving the article more attention than it deserves, but I'm so pissed off, it's driving me nuts.
