My mom's birthday is in less than 2 weeks but I neither have the idea nor the money to get her anything yet :/
I'm starting to feel apprehensive about my university applications.. Cambridge's reply is due in early January which isn't that far away.. So these past few days, I've been diligently checking my UCAS track.. But the page always stays the same no matter how many times I check it :P
I also read in an online forum that getting your offers is the easy part.. It's getting those grades that really makes or breaks you.. And I can't agree more.. I'm already struggling with my Computing project, yet here I am fretting whether I got myself a place in Cambridge(!) or not :P
2005 is going to be a pretty hard year for me..
Speaking of hardships, I share the world's sadness over the recent tsunami incident that has claimed almost 40000 lives worldwide.. My friend R asked me if I felt any tremors at 9am last Sunday because apparently lots of my other friends in Shah Alam had felt it.. But at that time I was in KL playing chess and the only tremors I felt were the ones in my body when I sat right in front of my chess opponent :P
I read in an article that at this particular beach, somebody was trying to warn everybody about the waves but nobody heeded his warnings.. They continued enjoying their holiday which proved to be short-lived once the waves started to pound the shoreline.. Were the holidaymakers too complacent? Since Malaysia has been relatively disaster-free all this while, when suddenly there's this one guy yelling "Look out!", did they all think it was some sick joke? I can't help but think that many lives could've been saved if only people were less ignorant :P
It also made me think.. When a car alarm goes off in the middle of the city, what is the first thought that goes through your mind? "Oh, the car owner must've set it off by mistake," or "A cat must've touched the car," without realizing that someone might just be trying to break into the car.. Once we hear the alarm go off, we spontaneously turn our heads towards the sound and then after a split second, we immediately resume what we were doing at the time.. So what's the point of installing car alarms in the first place?
And now the public is blaming the government for not giving enough warning about the tsunamis.. Tsk..
