It has happened. My worst fear has come true.
eBay is here. In Malaysia.
Where?
Here.
It looks very promising, but from the cover story featured in The Star, I can only deduce that they're very cocky..
"How many staff does Lelong.com.my have? We have over 4,000 personnel looking after our websites V eBay is safe and trusted," he said, adding that he does not see the Malaysian company as competition.
Hello? I don't think that's the proper thing to say when you're up against an adversary who has had more than 6 years of experience in Malaysian e-commerce.. Lelong.com.my has quite a large number of users and through the effective use of their community forums, I believe Lelong users are pretty close-knit.. IMHO, I wouldn't say that Lelong would "lose customers" to eBay..
This new development will most certainly give more options for buyers to compare prices.. But despite this, I can't help feeling resentful of eBay's arrogance.. Just because they're the best in America, that doesn't give them the right to proclaim superiority over our local pioneers.. Granted, having more manpower and billions of dollars of capital is highly advantageous to say the least.. But they could have shown some respect for others who have been in the local scene longer than they have..
But then again, I'm not in the business line and from what I've seen through The Apprentice, being nice won't win you the game :P
