Accounts of an Adolescent

My Hari Raya celebration centred around food, food and more food.. Gosh, I don't think my mom has ever prepared such a huge spread of delicacies ever.. But then again, this is the 1st time we celebrated Hari Raya at Shah Alam and not at my parents' hometowns :P

My mom bought 13 different types of kuih raya.. God knows who's going to finish all of them.. Or when :P Then there's my mom's signature pulut, our homemade ketupat, chicken rendang, lontong and - get this - spaghetti bolognaise.. hahaha.. Talk about Western influence :P

The 1st day of Raya was kind of boring.. We were expecting our relatives from 2 families, so we waited from morning till 6pm but they were nowhere in sight.. To beat the boredom, my mom, my brothers and I went to Giant Hypermarket, only to receive a phone call right before we stepped out of our car.. It was from our relatives and they had just arrived at our house.. So we cancelled our shopping spree and went straight back home..

The 2nd day was pretty much the same.. We waited for another family to come over and while we waited, I packed all my stuff for college.. Some of my relatives commented that I've grown fairer (awww, really? shucks!) and my mom proudly announced to the whole world that I was using Fair & Lovely, a popular skin whitening product.. Well, OK, so she's telling the truth.. But did she have to tell everyone in the family about it? She did that not only once, but thrice! Man, the humiliation.. (But since I'm already telling you blog readers about this "secret" of mine, I guess it doesn't really matter anymore :P)

My collection of duit raya isn't too bad.. I'm already eyeing some stuff to buy during next month's PC Fair.. hehe.. Lately, I've been saving quite a bit of money, at least by my standards.. There were times when I couldn't even withdraw money without breaching the minimum level of money, so this is quite a revelation, in fact.. Am I slowly changing for the better? Heh.. As good as it sounds, I think at the back of my mind, I know this frugal behaviour is only temporary.. I still log on faithfully to Lelong every now and then.. My seniors in UK are having trouble shying away from eBay as we speak.. Gosh, I think by the time I get there, I would be a certified online shopaholic!
