Out of curiosity, I typed in "Kolej Yayasan UEM" in Google to see first-hand what my prospective juniors must be going through right now.. Most of the search results were blogs and personal websites created by ex-students.. And then I stumbled upon a forum thread asking about the college.. Looks like almost everyone's in the dark about KYUEM one way or another.. Who could blame them.. Poor souls..
I remember almost 12 months ago when I was the one frantically looking for information about some A-Level college which was called Kolej Matrikulasi Yayasan Satu back then.. My search led me to the KMYS website which only had a main page with a list of broken links :P Nowadays, even the whole website is dead..
I don't know why the college is shrouded in such obscurity when it has a reputation of churning Oxbridge-bound students on a yearly basis.. There had been plans on increasing publicity after the college's name change to Kolej Yayasan UEM.. And expectedly so, advertisements carrying our new college logo were frequently spotted in national dailies.. We even made an inside joke about media misinformation after we saw the ad ;) But I'm sure that every one of us was relishing the fact that someday, we could all be proud to say we come from KYUEM without flinching in fear that they'd ask back where the heck is it or which state is Lembah Beringin in :P
But I guess the dream is still a long way off.. The fact is, so many people are using the Internet to look for information and yet there's nothing to be found on KYUEM.. Which is really sad, considering that the students here are among the best in the country and yet there's so little recognition for the place which shapes these students to become movers and shakers inside the halls of top UK universities..
Anyhow, the idea that I'm going to be a senior in two weeks' time still hasn't sunk in yet.. In fact, it feels kind of overwhelming.. It's like you're supposed to be a role model now to your juniors and you have to set a good example by behaving nicely, studying hard and scoring strings of As.. Somehow our 'honeymoon year' as a junior has ended abruptly and now we have to grow up.. Heck, come next year, we're not even teenagers anymore.. We'll soon be hitting our big 2-0 birthdays and will soon become - gulp - adults..
Oh well.. Another 12 months left in KYUEM.. I'm awfully going to miss this place in a year's time.. I hope I won't be rubbing off my negative vibes on the incoming juniors..
Well, not too much.. hehehe :P
