Accounts of an Adolescent

OK, I know it's been 6453 years already since I last updated my blog.. Heartfelt apologies.. Let's just say I've been hit by a huge case of writer's block :P After much coercion from my dear blog fans, F, E and Z, here's a recap of my last week of my 2nd semester in KYUEM..

We had our College Dinner which was themed Euro 2004.. Initially, we were all thinking along the lines of round tables in our Great Hall, but we were massively mistaken.. The whole hall was converted into one giant indoor football field where lots of football-related activities were held.. Chairs were arranged around the makeshift field.. There was an inter-house Euro 2004 computer game tournament and it was shown real-time on the huge screen in front of the hall.. Pretty cool.. But it was funny seeing the rest of the guys in the hall being glued to the screen and cheering as if the matches were real :P

But as soon as they started this game where female participants needed to shoot into the goal post blindfolded, I left the hall.. The premise of the game sounded interesting, but any 5-year-old could kick a ball straight into the back of the net.. It would have been fun if the girls had to spin around 3 or 5 times before kicking the ball, don't you think?

Overall, the food was delicious.. Fried rice, fried mee, fried chicken, fried sausages, fried nuggets.. The only thing that wasn't fried was my stomach :P I lapped up all the food pretty quick.. It just so happened that the buffet spread was situated right next to where I was sitting.. So as soon as the MC gave us the green light, almost everybody, including me, raced through the door.. And I was among the early birds.. Hehehe.. :) I've heard a lot of complaints, especially from the boys who sat across the hall, about the whole buffet table setup.. But who cares? *Burp* Alhamdulillah..

Student Dinner was held at Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam.. We paid RM55, inclusive of dinner and bus rides to and fro.. You have no idea how much hype surrounded the whole Student Dinner.. From a simple night out, it turned into a huge prom-like affair.. Well, granted, this is the closest thing to a prom you'll ever get in this college.. But the buzz surrounding it was ridiculous..

OK, so what if that's my personal opinion? You see, for the past one week prior to this Student Dinner, everybody has been bombarding me so many times about how she's got this perfect dress and she's just bought a pair (literally) killer shoes and she's got matching earrings..

AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Look, I've been brought up in a way that the only time I'm reminded of my femininity is when my mom constantly nags me to act more ladylike.. In which I have totally given up hope in doing so.. You have no idea how unwomanly I felt seeing the rest of my girl friends getting all dolled up for the night while I just slabbed on some lip balm and went off :P

E, R and T decided to come over to my house before the dinner to change into their evening wear.. So at 7pm, as soon as we stepped off the bus, my dad came to pick us up at Concorde.. Well, to tell you the truth, I had a few personal plans of my own in mind at that time.. Which was why I didn't offer anybody to come over to my house in the first place.. But since they were my friends after all, I didn't say a word when they asked me for the favour.. I guess I'll just have to save the plan for another day.. Sigh..

The dinner started almost into 9pm.. The girls were given corsages while the boys were given boxes of chocolates.. Can you say double standards? :P The food was superb.. It's funny that I was the only one who knew that the appetizer we had was sweet corn soup with crabmeat, in contrast to sharks' fin soup as claimed by other people.. Maybe it's because I was the only one who dived straight for the menu :P Next up? Chicken, fish, prawns, mushrooms, tofu, fried rice and for dessert, honey dew with sago in coconut milk.. Yummy.. Definitely worth every ringgit paid..

And then local band OAG came to perform 6 songs.. But I totally missed their performance because I was - elsewhere.. Heh.. Before this, I would've thought that missing such a huge event, for the measly amount of money paid, would be a total sin.. But I was so wrong.. Sometimes it's the smallest things in life that are the most meaningful..

But what I noticed the most was how our gang was slowly growing apart.. R and I were sitting at one table, E and T at another table, while the rest of the crew were at another.. It's sad, come to think of it.. But I guess there just comes a time when you slowly drift apart.. Friendships take a back seat to personal differences and there's no other way but to go our separate ways..

To be continued..
