Day 2 into my job attachment in KYSM.. Since the guys moved to the bungalow, they've been coming late to the dining hall for all their meals.. During breakfast, we had already finished our fried rice when they arrived in a car driven by one of the staff.. Grr..
The non-technical people of our team, namely me, RX and H just went about our usual routine - staring and sitting idly - as E and F notoriously worked on setting up web servers and reformatting the machine they call the 'ice cream box'.. There was a short moment when E went out of sight for quite a while.. We wondered where he went, including the KYSM IT manager, Mr. A.. And when he came back, he coolly went off to continue his work with Mr. A after handing me a printed A4 paper - it was a letter requesting permission for the girls to stay with the boys in their bungalow.. You see, for the last few days, we've been contemplating of staying together under one roof, considering the 'lowly' state of us girls' apartment compared to the boys' huge bungalow.. Of course, in the letter, E stated numerous other reasons to justify the request.. But boldly stamped at the bottom of the letter was the name of the senior staff with 'Not Approved' written next to it.. Darn..
Apparently, E went to see the senior staff himself, alone, risking his neck in the process.. He has always been averse to the idea of us girls joining them.. So when he gave me the rejected letter, his expression had "I told you so!" written all over his face.. Well, OK, so maybe it wasn't such a good idea in the first place.. But personally I think he didn't need to meet the admininstrators on his own.. He could've just brought any of us along with him to plead our case.. But he just didn't.. Hmm.. In any way, he still got quite an earful from the staff, so his 'sacrifice' is something I won't disregard for some time..
Later in the afternoon, it was time for the last class I'd be handling for the rest of the week.. This time, I had one full hour to work my 'magic' so I made full use of the time given.. I conducted a quiz on those Form 2 T students and I brought along the box of chocolates I had bought yesterday at Jaya Jusco.. I divided all 14 of them into 2 groups and they were asked various questions, ranging from general knowledge to computer history to "What's my name?" :P
After 21 questions were given, the box was still half full.. So E came in to help - by giving out text-book style exam questions which he considers as 'general knowledge' :P I could practically see the kids' eyeballs pop out everytime he delivers each killer question.. How many countries are there in the UN? What's the capital of Sudan? Which state conferred Tan Sri Wira Halim Saad his title? These qere questions even the rest of the team couldn't answer, let alone a bunch of rowdy 14 year olds.. And when I say rowdy, I mean really rowdy.. All through the quiz, they were practically jumping up and down screaming the answers - assuming they know the answers, of course - while E and I tried haplessly to tone down their voices.. I even tried my 'silent treatment' trick.. I sat there silently, waiting for them to get the hint that I want them to keep quiet.. But they kept going on and on with their funny comments that I couldn't stop myself from giggling! They really were like kindergarten kids.. hahaha..
Overall, I had loads of fun, as usual.. We even stole 15 minutes from their next class just because the kids didn't want to leave the computer lab.. hehehe.. After class, we interviewed Mr. A on e-learning as part of our job attachment tasks.. RX recorded the whole interview.. So tomorrow, our work is basically cut out for us.. We'll need to transcribe the interview and pick out some juicy bits and pieces to include into our final report.. And then we need to compile the data for the survey we conducted on the students.. Plus I still haven't finished the introduction of the report..
And please don't remind me of any homework pending.. At this point, all I could think of is how to live through the next few days.. Well, alright.. I just like to complain a lot.. Let's see what else there is to complain about tomorrow..
