This is getting kind of creepy.. I'm skipping classes as if I own this place.. I've skipped the first 2 block of the day for 3 days in a row now.. Hmm.. Doesn't sound too good to me..
Yesterday, I attended a talk by the college counsellor on how to choose a university.. She asked "which university's the best for Computer Science?".. Then silence filled the room.. I looked right and left.. When I realized that I was perhaps the only IT student there (discounting another computer Science student whom I didn't see), I gulped.. "Am I supposed to answer that question?"
I panicked.. I tried to think of a university but none came to mind.. Sweat formed on my forehead.. Then finally Ms. K, the counsellor, looked at me straight in the eye and said, "You don't know any, do you?"
Alamak.. kantoi..
I sheepishly smiled.. "Well, York is a good place for IT," she said before moving on..
Surprisingly, my friend T is a new convert of blogging! I came to her chalet to find her logging into Blogger's user interface.. Heh.. It wouldn't surprise me if blogging becomes a new phenomenon in this college.. It does seem trivial for a busy student, but considering the pressures of college life and the level of English proficiency amongst students, it's not impossible for the KYUEM bloggers community to grow..
But the number one problem with blogging - at least for me - is privacy.. Blogging can essentially be your online diary.. And diaries aren't meant to be read.. By blogging, you can limit the number of people reading it, but with the technology we have today, anybody can have reasonable access to your blog.. And to me, the more people read your blog, the more limited you'll become in your writing.. You wouldn't want to hurt someone's feelings by blatantly talking (mostly bad) about that person in his/her face publicly.. Yet if we can't say whatever we want on our blogs, it sort of defeats the purpose of creating one in the first place..
So what's happening now is that we have a small community of bloggers, yet their activities remain covert.. Nobody knows they're blogging, except a select few of close friends and very insistent busybodies.. I would say that maybe I am among those few people too.. The bloggers and the busybodies.. But the lack of readers/snoopers amongst my collegemates is more than compensated by the number of friends I have outside KYUEM.. So in a way 'not many' people know about my blog, yet the number of readers I have is encouraging enough to drive me to write more.. Hehe.. Do I sound like some hot-shot author? I'll stop dreaming now..
The girls' warden just paid a visit.. By yanking the door open with her master key.. Only to find me in front of the computer.. "Eh, ada orang ke?" ("Eh, there's someone here?").. The expression on her face is priceless! "Nak mengkantoikan kitorang ke?" ("Are you trying to bust us?") I said.. "No, I just wanted to turn off your air-conditioner.. for the umpteenth time."
Yikes.
Accounting paper 1 up ahead in half an hour.. Better get myself going..
