Pretty eventful day for the KYUEMans amidst Malaysia's verdant uplands.. Apparently a major water pipeline burst near the entrance to the golf course nearby.. So the whole of Lembah Beringin is plunged into a (hopefully) temporary water crisis.. The girls, understandably, are more distressed compared to the guys.. Everybody's worrying whether they have enough water to drink, wash their clothes, bathe, etc.. Even the dining hall's using paper plates instead of the usual plastic plates.. There's a foreboding sense of panic in everyone.. Plus, there's the uncertainty of when - or whether - it'll get fixed or not.. Heh, after my meal, I even went to the sink to wash my hands before realizing that nothing flowed out of the tap :P
I realize that apart from food, water, shelter and clothing, KYUEMans generally need these 2 things for survival :
1) Internet access - Imperative for everybody's sanity, it is the only saviour for boring, dull moments which can be found in abundance here.. Even Intranet failure - which cuts off the male chalet network users to the female chalet network users and vice versa - is troubling.. This is mainly due to the fact that most categorized content available in our network - e.g. movies, music, anime, manga, porn (if you have a death wish) - are only provided by certain people from certain genders.. Prolonged absence of network access might induce severe withdrawal symptoms, as demonstrated perfectly by yours truly when my laptop had problems with the network recently :P
2) Electricity - Sometimes the power supply would go off and on in the span of 30 seconds.. But that half a minute is enough to send scores of people screaming at their monitors.. Surprisingly, the last time a black out occured, the reason behind our students' sidespread panic was that they wanted to study at night.. Not to play computer games.. Not to surf online.. Not to waste time.. But heck, it was an exam week :P And after that, only then did other reasons surfaced, such as the hot weather, etc.. I guess the only time when you really acknowledge the importance of electricity is when the sky starts to fall darker and darker..
The boys' network has been down since 3am yesterday.. It's sort of like a double whammy for the residents of the male chalets.. No water and no network.. I really pity them..
Tomorrow I'm going to KL.. Thankfully my cold's subsided a bit.. But what really makes me apprehensive is the plans my friends have for tomorrow - shopping.. OK, you probably think I'm an alien.. How can a girl hate shopping? Well, I can spend hours in between supermarket aisles.. I can rummage a whole book store in an hour.. But 5 minutes in a boutique is all it takes to give me serial headaches.. R wants to buy some cosmetics and clothes and N wants to splurge at Chili's for lunch.. I'm fine with the food but not the bill :P I truly pray that I would have enough resolve in myself to resist the tempation to blow off my 3-months' worth of scholarship money.. Petronas credited my bank account on March 18.. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy tomorrow without risking poverty..
