Accounts of an Adolescent

Thursday, March 18, 2004

Let's all take a quiet moment of reflection for the poor, unfortunate kids currently residing in KMB after savouring the delicious chicken rice we KYUEMans had for lunch today.. burp.. Alhamdulillah..

Mr. M insisted that I got a few teachers to sign my leave form, so with a couple of hours left in this college, I had to run around the academic block looking for all 8 of my teachers.. In the end I only got 5 signatures, so I just decided to drop the whole search :P

My mom hasn't even left Shah Alam yet, so the earliest she would arrive here is in 2 hours minimum.. Initially I wanted to keep my departure a quiet affair.. But I think almost half of the college knows about it already.. My Physics teacher, Dr. F even told me that he wouldn't let me skip his class unless I win.. Then of all replies, what did I have to say? "If I don't go then I definitely won't win."

Gulp.. Did I just promised Mt. Everest? I've been joining the National Age-Group since I was in Form 2 and I haven't won the elusive champion's title even once.. Last year probably had to be the most humiliating outing for me.. I was the top seed for the U-20 girls category but I ended up getting fourth, and even that was by a stroke of good luck..

The problem with me is that sometimes I'm too overconfident of winning.. Just because my category's among the easiest in the championships, I often made the grave mistake of taking things for granted.. During matches, I'd make error after error, hoping that my opponent would be dumb enough not to see it.. My eventual losses were bitter pills to swallow..

So how will I fare this year? I think last week's KMB stint was pretty helpful.. Yet back then, our team was considered as the underdogs.. So if I get the top billing once more, would my over-inflated ego cause my downfall?

Whatever happens tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to live through the next 3 days.. At least I've been given an extended weekend; one which I'd definitely treasure :)
