Accounts of an Adolescent

S and her boyfriend are back together.. Yay.. For now..

For the past 2 days I've been the director from hell.. My drama coach, Mr. C would be proud of me.. Even my friend F is starting to refer to me as Miss C :P We're used to him giving the whole cast some verbal artillery everytime he doesn't like any of the scenes.. And so far I've been immitating him quite nicely :P I'm as cranky as a girl with PMS, only that I'm not.. Which is worse.. Believe me..

I've been very busy with the whole play that I've been sacrificing so much time on it instead of studying.. I know.. I know.. I should have better time management, yadda, yadda, yadda.. But with only 6 days' work to come up with a decent 15 minutes show, there's hardly any time to spare..

Which makes me really wonder.. If we students stood our ground, what can the college do to force us to do all these useless, time-consuming activies? It's not like they're going to drag us out of our chalets and prod us to perform with whips in hand.. We can say "NO".. But the problem is, we didn't.. When we were thrusted with all this work, we stupidly agreed to it just because of one element : ego.. For example, if the newly elected Student Council was entrusted to do the Nostalgic Malaysia event, they wouldn't possibly say no.. Even when the mock exams are looming in 3 weeks' time and there's going to be the Islamic Cultural Arts Night next week and the invitational rugby tournament after that.. I mean, hello?? During SPM, we stopped doing everything once Form 5 kicked in.. Now, major exams are coming our way in a few more days and we're jumping around singing "Senangnya dalam hati" despite the impending doom.. Why wouldn't the SC say no? Because it's their 1st major assignment and I could imagine that saying no to that would make a tremendous dent into their own "integrity" a.k.a. ego..

So because of that, we students are stuck with loads of unnecessary workload, putting off the most important priority of all - studies.. So fine, the SC wants some limelight.. Go ahead.. Have a ball.. But what equally irks me is the 'enthusiasm' from all houses.. Despite knowing full well that they'll be flunking their exams pretty soon, everybody's so pumped up on the whole event because they don't want to lose.. They want to emerge as the best.. They want to show that all the other houses are losers.. They want to show who's the boss.. In the end, we become slaves to our own inflated heads.. It wouldn't hurt for all the house captains to join forces and deliver a resounding "NO" to the SC or the Student Services for that matter because we are the students and we hold the majority.. If we stick together then there's nothing the college could do..

But unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world.. And as long as the SC is willing to become pushovers to the Student Services whim and fancy, there's nothing left to do..

Talking about being a pushover, I think I'm falling into the same category as well.. We're about to change our lead actor (again) because a few parties were concerned with the lack of expression from the current lead who's been practising for 2 days.. And although I was very uneasy with the thought of making another hero to zero, I just accepted the decision.. So yes, I'm also a pushover.. And I kept thinking to myself that all this while I've been ranting about so many things in my life and when this incident occured, it made me realize - Why didn't I stand up for myself? Why did I let it all happen? I can change everything.. Just by speaking up..

How do I break out of this self-made mould of submission? How do I muster enough courage to make others hear what I think and do what I want to do?
