Accounts of an Adolescent

*** WARNING: This is a looooong one. ***

2003 has been a turbulent year for me.. And if my friend doesn't mind me copying his idea of recapping the last 12 months (sorry Kay-N :P), here's a timeline of last year's highlights :

[JANUARY] Still waiting for my SPM results.. I was one month into my temporary job as an accounts clerk.. It made me open my eyes to the real working world, not the idealized notions we all commonly have in our heads.. Working can become pretty monotonous over a short period of time..

[FEBRUARY] Received my SPM results which surpassed my expectations tremendously.. Suddenly the thought of studying overseas wasn't so foreign after all..

[MARCH] Extremely busy month.. Attended interview after interview for scholarships and university placements.. Decided to quit my job by the end of the month to make way for those commitments.. Well, not really.. The same routine was boring me to death..

[APRIL] Some very good news : My Petronas scholarship application was accepted! I felt like I was on seventh heaven.. At the same time, Bank Negara called me up for its 2nd interview.. Since I already had a scholarship in hand, I just went for the experience without expecting anything.. In the end, I took a really good 'beating' by those department managers..

[MAY] A shocker : I got Bank Negara's scholarship too! I was given 2 weeks to weigh my options.. Either do A-Levels in Kolej Tuanku Jaafar or International Baccalaureate in Kolej MARA Banting.. I chose the latter because of Petronas's bigger paychecks after graduation :P

[JUNE] Went to Petronas's students' orientation and was thrown with another shocker : Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to be moved to Kolej Matrikulasi Yayasan Satu to do A-Levels instead of going to KMB.. I was very disappointed.. But I immediately changed my mind once I knew that Internet was available to every student in each room :)

[JULY] Took on a 3-week stint as a temporary IT teacher at my old secondary school.. Really made me appreciate a teacher's job more than ever.. And I used to think that they were out to screw you :P I also braced myself to go where I've never gone before - residential school! I was extremely apprehensive since I didn't really pass the test during Form 1 (I came back after 10 days).. Even when I arrived, I couldn't wait for the induction week to end.. It was pure torture.. In the end I managed to survive unscathed..

[AUGUST] Begun to feel the pressure of college life.. It wasn't easy managing time properly while doing all sorts of activities.. I became an extra during Bangsawan night.. Then I drove people up the wall as the stage manager of our batch's Cultural Performance.. I even overcame my fears of auditions and managed to land myself a (somewhat) important role in our college play.. I began to do new things which were truly exciting..

[SEPTEMBER] I started delving into chess again.. Even won my college's best female player title.. Started to join all sorts of clubs holding all sorts of positions.. It began to take a toll on my energy.. Later my college did an invitational board games tournament.. I pulled off a scandalous move by bringing my younger brother along.. He almost won the tournament if it weren't for a stroke of bad luck on his side.. And good luck on mine because my team won :)

[OCTOBER] Was getting busier with drama rehearsals 3 times a week.. Started to neglect my house duties which irked some of my other housemates.. Even had a slight tiff with the top guns of my house because of their lack of confidence over my capabilities..

[NOVEMBER] Exam month.. Even when all the teachers 'adamantly' told us there wouldn't be any.. Totally stressed me out and I couldn't wait for the holidays to arrive.. Had my 1st experience fasting away from home.. Even sang 'Dendang Perantau' in my head a few times on my way to class in the mornings..

[DECEMBER] Whirlwind Raya celebrations for me.. I went to Langkawi and Singapore in a span of 3 days.. Represented Malaysia during the MAS vs. SIN chess challenge.. Managed to contribute 1.5 points in the women's Under-18 category but Malaysia lost all the same.. Got myself some contact lenses.. Totally wasted myself away at home, oblivious to all the impending exams awaiting me once college reopens..

Obviously I'm holding back on a lot of other info.. Like my recent break up(s) this past year.. But if I went deeper into that then this blog would take forever to write - and read..

So my resolutions for 2004?

1) Make a good time schedule and stick to it
2) Pay more attention in class
3) Finish my homework on time
4) Remember to save money
5) Get a boyfriend (oh, c'mon.. you can't expect me NOT to include this :P)

But as with all my previous resolutions, I foresee them being broken by January 14.

Happy New Year :)
