Accounts of an Adolescent

Sunday, January 25, 2004

Arrived 20 and 5 minutes late for the 6th and 7th rounds respectively.. Lost both of them so my total was 3 out of 7 points.. Luckily I managed to snag myself the women's 2nd prize.. During my last round, I was up against 1 of the eventual veteran winners.. I was losing badly; his 4 pawns against my sole rook.. As I was taking my sweet time racking my brain trying to weasel my way out of the losing battle, I heard him quip "Mengaku je la" ('Give up already').. The nerve of that man! I just wanted to blast out at him over his cockiness.. But what was there for me to do? He was winning anyway.. So instead, I just smiled politely and offered my resignation.. I even said 'thank you' :P At least I think I showed him that losing wasn't such a big deal.. Especially since his prize money was exactly the same as mine.. muahahaha..

Went to Sungei Wang Plaza to exact my 'revenge'.. I met with the same guy who sold me the handphone yesterday.. I used all the tricks my maid and my uncle taught me yesterday and it proved to bear fruit.. At 1st when he saw all the personalized ringtones, he asked if I had the phone upgraded.. What??? "You gave me a second-hand phone!".. After he glanced a few times at the glass display, he said "I'm sorry, we don't have any new 3315 models left. Please come back on Tuesday."

The funniest (and saddest) thing was, I tried to ask if I could get a refund.. And how did I do that? By stammering the word 'money' and 'back' like almost 10 times! What was that??? I've spoken in front of hundreds of people before and I couldn't ask a sleazy guy for a refund? It was so embarassing.. Anyway, I got turned down so I had no choice but to return on Tuesday.. Oh well, at least I'll have an excuse to explore Berjaya Times Square nearby :)

Speaking of exploring, I decided to begin my 'exploration' after my visit to Sungei Wang Plaza.. I started off at the Lower Ground and I found a supermarket.. And there, I met this worker who's probably about my age.. And whenever he saw me he'd start calling out to me.. Like, I know I can seem desperate sometimes about boys, but, hello, who the heck are you? So I started to ignore him.. all the 3 times I bumped into him :P Then on the 4th meeting he actually followed me and said "Hi, cik kak" or something.. Then I faced him and retorted, "Boleh tak tolong jangan kacau saya? Terima kasih." ('Can you please stop bugging me? Thank you.').. Then he replied something like "Bukan kacau tapi.." but it got lost as I steered farther away from him :P

Is it just me or.. is it because of the contact lenses? Because it doesn't seem to happen a lot to me before.. And sometimes I do think it's beginning to become a troublemaker..
