I was checking through the master copy of Veritas before I gave it to T for her to read.. It turned out that she discovered almost 6 other articles in need of last minute editing :P So I guess I mucked up pretty bad to actually overlook all those errors.. Luckily I had T's help.. I'm definitely going to buy her a meal tomorrow :)
I also owe a lot to F, the layout guy.. Of all the people in Veritas, he must be the only one who sees me at my worst :P I've been giving him all sorts of instructions and I admit, some of them were impossibly short notice.. But he just shrugged the pressure off and duly delivered.. If it weren't for people like them in our team, I doubt we'd even see Veritas successfully published time after time :P
But there was drama today regarding our beloved newsletter.. Apparently a lot of people, including the seniors, had already read the latest Black Adder article and there's practically a bounty hunt on him.. They didn't like the way he fired his verbal cannons on matters which are "baseless".. Well, this is what I've been expecting all along.. I'm sure that the article would ignite a furore in our college.. But to extent of hunting down the Black Adder? This is getting a bit waaayyyyy too far.. And it doesn't help that Mr. Black Adder himself doesn't seem to mind telling people publicly about his pen name either.. Does he have a death wish or something? Doesn't he know that almost half of the college population wants his head over what he wrote?
But the question goes back to : how the heck did the article get circulated? The answer? It was partly my fault. I remembered asking F for the edited version of Black Adder to be sent to me and so he shared the document in the college network.. At that time, I couldn't access the male chalets' network so I asked him to give it to me using some other way.. What we both didn't realize is that he forgot to unshare the incriminating article.. So what happened next? I'm sure you know the answer to that..
That explains why more and more people are walking up to Veritas members asking for the identity of Black Adder.. We try - well, most of us - to keep it a secret by telling them we don't know, either genuinely or not.. But if Black Adder himself decides to bask in the glory of being able to lash out to other people while thinking that he's immune from any backlashes, well, I'd watch my back if I was him..
But all in all, tonight really made me realize what a sucky job I did this time around.. I did a lousy job at editing, I almost allowed myself to be swayed by individual agendas, I was partly at fault for leaking our most anticipated article, and I even took the risk of putting Veritas's name on the line just to include a few controversial articles.. Even the initial response we're getting isn't that encouraging.. Have I made a mistake by letting Black Adder in this time?
What are my expectations for the this edition? All feedback will centre mainly on how crude Black Adder is and how endangered his life is right now.. I'm sure that most people won't even notice the other 20+ articles in this edition due to the overshadowing controversy.. This is one heck of a bumper issue.. Almost 40 pages in total, filled with what I deem as pretty reasonable (and funny) articles.. But if one article is all it takes to discount the remaining articles, then what else can I do?
Veritas means so much to every one of its team members that I'm sure nobody wants to see it self-destruct anytime soon.. Everybody's giving so much effort into it.. But at this rate? The excess enthusiasm might be more detrimental than beneficial..
Water's back.. yay!!! At least we'll get to bathe before the Regent of Perak arrives tomorrow.. thank God..
